This original home market XK140 Fixed Head Coupe is an increasingly rare example of the unmolested, unrestored Jaguar XK sports car. Still sporting its original Herefordshire number plate, it was supplied new through Rothwell & Milbourne, a small Jaguar dealership in Malvern. The first owner was Richard Bright of Leominster, and the logbook suggests only 3 further owners since.
Finished in BRG with a Suede Green interior, it still wears its steel wheels with spats. It has its original engine block, with a later B-Type head and two 2inch HD8 SU carburettors, making it the equivalent of an SE engine fitted with the C-Type head. The steel wheels at the front hide Mk IX disc brakes and the handling is improved by Koni shock absorbers all round.
Recently recommissioned for the road, it drives very well with excellent door shuts. Whilst the paint is old and perhaps a bit shabby, it is very much in its own juices; the kind of lovely XK that was common 20 years ago, most having since been sacrificed to the God of the Average Restoration. It is thought to have some sprint and hill climb history, and this is being investigated further at the moment.
It’s hard to find Jaguars of any kind like this anymore. Use it as it is and upset the chap in the blazer on the concours lawn. Better/more pictures coming soon
