“This, indeed, is the car for the connoisseur. It can only be modesty on the part of the Bristol publicity boys which has prevented them from quoting as the 401’s slogan ‘The Best Car in Britain'” (Motor Sport magazine, January 1953).
– 1 of 618 built, matching chassis and engine numbers
– Recent full engine rebuild and sympathetic restoration
Chassis 401/1094 was supplied new by Anthony Crook Ltd of Hersham, Surrey. Previous to the current owner, it had been dry stored for some sixteen years until 1999 when it was discovered by a Bristol enthusiast. He treated `VSJ 780′ to a sympathetic mechanical recommissioning, and then in 2015 a bare metal repaint along with rechroming of the bright work.
More recently in 2017 the car was subject to extensive works by Spencer Lane Jones Ltd at a cost of over £31,000. This work included a full engine rebuild by Hurley Engines Services. As a result of this work the car is presented in superb all round condition, on the button and ready to go.
